I mean 10 of the 14 schools are already paired with an important rival and good luck getting them to agree to give it up so the minority can have "more variety." Why not have all 14 schools paired up with an important rival? If the ACC switches to these pairings, then everyone is paired with an important rival.

I mean it isn't hard so there is no reason for the ACC to try to re-invent the wheel.

Plus, if the ACC has exceptions for only 4 schools, then you will see quirks form in the future rotation schedule. The Big Ten has them because Indiana-Purdue is the only protected cross-division game. The Pac-12 has them because the 4 CA have 2 protected cross-division games so they can play the other 2 CA in the other division every year. As a result, UDub, Wazzou, Oregon, and Oregon State end up playing Colorado, Utah, and the 2 AZ schools more frequently.

Besides, the swapping of protected cross-division games may not lead to VT playing Clemson, FSU, or NC State more frequently. Instead, it could lead VT to playing them less frequently because they bumped because L'ville is taking BC's place in the rotation when VT is paired with BC or BC is taking L'ville's place in the rotation when VT is paired with L'ville. The only result it will guarantee is that VT and UVA will end up playing BC and L'ville more frequently than the other members in the Atlantic Division.
